Port Dover Family Dentistry
Mention a persistent sore even if a denture seems to rub it. During oral screening, Delhi residents can ask about the tissue itself as well as the appliance.

Welcoming Delhi patients at our office in Port Dover
All dental services for DelhiBring a persistent change to professional attention
Many changes in the mouth have causes other than cancer, but a persistent sore, lump or patch should be assessed. Screening is an opportunity to look for concerning findings and discuss what happens next. It is not a definitive diagnosis or a guarantee that every disease has been ruled out.
Delhi patients can raise these concerns at our Port Dover practice. Tell the team what you have noticed and how long it has been present when arranging the appointment, rather than leaving the detail until a distant routine visit.

Describe the change
Mention a sore that is not healing, a red or white patch, a lump, unexplained numbness or difficulty with chewing or swallowing. Changes lasting more than two weeks deserve review by a dentist or doctor; seek advice sooner when a concern is significant or worsening.
Describe changes in size or feel and any irritation from a tooth or appliance. Mention whether adjusting how you eat or wear the appliance changes the discomfort. A possible rubbing point is useful information, but it does not establish the explanation for a persistent lesion without examination of the tissue itself.
Understand the examination
The clinician reviews relevant history and examines the mouth and associated areas for unusual findings. Share tobacco and alcohol history and other relevant health information openly. The discussion should focus on assessment rather than blame or assumptions about who can develop a problem.
An examination may identify an area that needs further evaluation, while appearance alone does not establish a cancer diagnosis. Ask what the clinician found and which questions remain. The proposed next step may be review, investigation or referral, and its purpose should be clear before you leave the appointment.
Follow through on a finding
If testing or specialist review is advised, ask which question it is intended to answer and who arranges the appointment. A biopsy or another investigation may be needed for diagnosis. Record the expected contact timeframe and whom to call if it passes without progress, so the referral remains an active part of your care.
If observation is appropriate, agree on a review date and the changes to report sooner. Monitoring should be an active plan with a clear purpose, not an indefinite instruction to ignore the area.
Stay attentive between visits
A previous normal examination does not explain a later sore or lump. Contact the practice or a medical clinician with new persistent symptoms and describe when they began. Do not wait for the next scheduled screening to raise a developing concern.
If an appliance rubs the area, arrange review of its fit alongside assessment of the tissue. Clarify whether a separate follow-up is needed to check the sore after the appliance is addressed. Keep those appointments and ask again if the reason for observation, investigation or referral remains unclear to you.
Planning your appointment
Tell our Port Dover team the location, duration and symptoms when booking. Mention swallowing problems or other significant changes so the need for timely care is understood.
Bring health and medication information and details of any earlier examination. Sudden breathing difficulty or another medical emergency requires emergency medical help rather than waiting for a screening appointment.
Before you book
Have a question about your situation? Our team can help you plan a visit.
No. A patch can have different causes, and an examination may lead to further investigation rather than an immediate diagnosis. Ask what the clinician has found and what is needed to establish the cause of the change.
No screening examination provides that guarantee. It can identify concerns that need review or investigation. Continue to report new or persistent symptoms between visits rather than relying on a past reassuring result to explain a later change.
Yes. The appliance and the tissue both need consideration. A possible friction point should not be used to dismiss a persistent lesion without assessment. Tell the clinician how long it has been present and whether it is changing.
Relevant oral changes still deserve assessment regardless of tobacco history. Discuss your individual health information and any symptoms with the clinician. Do not use the absence of one risk factor as a reason to ignore a persistent concern.
Ask why the referral is recommended, who will arrange it and when to expect contact. Keep the appointment and seek clarification if the process stalls. Also confirm which changes should prompt earlier review while you wait.
Remembered a concern after returning to Delhi from a checkup? Tell our Port Dover team what was missed so we can discuss whether a further assessment is needed.
Years of use alone do not mean dental work needs replacing. Older adults from Delhi can discuss their restorations, comfort and priorities at our Port Dover office.
