Caring for Normandale residents and seasonal visitors at our Port Dover office
See every dental service for NormandaleGetting to know you
A new patient exam is more thorough than a routine checkup. It gives the dentist a full picture of your teeth, gums, bite, existing dental work and health history. That baseline makes it easier to spot changes at future visits and to plan treatment that fits your needs, rather than reacting to problems one at a time.
Whether you have recently settled in Normandale, own a seasonal place by the lake or simply want a new dental home, our Port Dover team welcomes you. The first appointment is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a sense of how we work.

Before you come
Prepare a list of medications, supplements and allergies, along with any significant health conditions or recent surgeries. Some conditions and medicines affect dental care, so accuracy matters. If you have had reactions to anaesthetic or other dental materials, mention them in your health history.
If you have seen another dentist recently, ask for copies of x-rays and records. These may reduce the need for repeat images and help the dentist understand your history. Note any treatment that was recommended but not completed, as well as concerns you would like to discuss.
The exam
The dentist examines each tooth for decay, wear and the condition of existing fillings and crowns. Gum health is assessed, sometimes with pocket measurements. The tongue, cheeks, palate and throat are checked for unusual changes. You will be asked about sensitivity, pain or anything you have noticed.
X-rays are often taken to see between teeth, below fillings and around roots, unless recent images are available. The dentist also looks at how your teeth meet and whether there are signs of grinding or jaw strain. These details contribute to a complete picture of your mouth.
Your plan
The dentist explains what looks healthy and what needs attention. If treatment is recommended, you will hear the options, the reasons and an idea of urgency. Some issues may be monitored rather than treated immediately, and you will understand why that approach is suggested.
When several treatments are needed, the dentist can help prioritize them by urgency and your preferences. You can take time to consider the plan, ask about alternatives and decide what to do first. A written summary can help if you want to review the plan at home.
Next steps
Depending on your needs, a cleaning may be done at the same visit or scheduled separately. The team will recommend an interval for checkups and cleanings. If you spend part of the year away from the Normandale area, let us know so appointments can be timed to suit your schedule.
Contact the office if you develop pain, swelling or other concerns before your next visit. Keep the team informed about changes in health or medications. Building an ongoing relationship with the practice makes it easier to provide consistent, personalized care over time.
Planning your appointment
Call our Port Dover office to book a new patient exam. Let us know if you have any urgent concerns, and whether you would like records requested from your previous dentist.
Plan to check in early so new patient forms are done before the exam, and keep identification and a current list of medicines with you.
Before you book
Have a question about your situation? Our team can help you plan a visit.
It is usually longer than a routine checkup because it includes a full assessment and often x-rays. The team can give you an estimate when you book.
Sometimes a cleaning is included or scheduled at the same time. In other cases it is booked separately. Ask when booking what to expect.
If you have recent x-rays from another dentist, they can be helpful. With your consent, the office can also request them directly.
That is fine. The team will focus on understanding your current needs and planning care at a pace that works for you.
Yes. Let the team know your schedule so appointments can be planned during the months you are in the area.
Regular dental checkups catch small problems early. Normandale residents can learn what a routine exam covers and how to plan visits around a lakeside schedule.
Unsure about a recommended treatment plan? Normandale residents can get a second opinion at our Port Dover office, with an independent exam and clear explanation.
