Caring for Renton patients at our Port Dover office
See every dental service for RentonAnchoring a denture in place
A conventional denture relies on suction and the shape of the gums to stay in place. For many people, particularly with lower dentures, that is not quite enough, and the denture may shift during meals or conversation. An implant-supported denture attaches to a small number of dental implants placed in the jaw, which can greatly improve stability and confidence.
Renton residents who struggle with a loose denture, or who are about to lose their remaining teeth, can explore this option at our Port Dover office. The dentist will assess bone, gums and general health, explain the different designs available and give an honest picture of the timeline, maintenance and what results might realistically look like.

Is it right for you?
People whose dentures move while chewing, who avoid certain foods, rely heavily on adhesive or have sore spots from movement may benefit from added stability. Lower dentures in particular often benefit because the tongue and cheek muscles tend to dislodge them. Those preparing for full-arch tooth loss may also want to consider implants as part of their planning.
Enough bone is needed to place implants, and some people need grafting first. Uncontrolled diabetes, smoking, certain medications and past radiation therapy to the jaw may affect healing. The dentist will review your medical history and imaging and explain whether implants are a reasonable option or whether a well-fitting conventional denture may be the better choice.
Design options
A removable implant-supported denture snaps onto attachments on two or more implants. It stays firmly in place while eating and speaking but can be taken out for cleaning and overnight. This design often requires fewer implants and may be easier to maintain. Attachments wear over time and need periodic replacement as part of routine upkeep.
A fixed full-arch bridge is attached to several implants and is removed only by the dentist. It can feel more like natural teeth but usually involves more implants, more complex cleaning routines and a greater upfront commitment. The dentist will explain the pros and considerations of each so you can choose what fits your goals and daily life.
Treatment steps
Implants are placed under local anaesthetic, sometimes with sedation. If teeth need removal, that may happen first or at the same visit. During healing, you may wear a temporary or modified denture. Follow care instructions closely, eat soft foods and attend follow-up visits so the dentist can monitor how the bone is integrating with the implants.
Once implants are stable, attachments are connected, and your new or existing denture is adapted to fit them. The dentist checks the fit, bite and comfort and shows you how to insert and remove a removable denture. Expect some adjustment period, as the denture will feel different from a conventional one. Renton patients can plan these visits ahead.
Living with it
Remove a snap-on denture daily to clean it and the attachments. Brush around the implant posts gently with a soft brush and use interdental brushes or a water flosser as recommended. Fixed designs need careful cleaning beneath the bridge using special tools. The hygienist will demonstrate techniques suited to your design so plaque does not build up around the implants.
Attachments and clips wear and may need replacing to maintain grip. Regular checkups allow the dentist to check implant health, denture fit and bone levels. If the denture becomes loose, you notice gum bleeding or swelling around an implant or something breaks, contact the office rather than waiting, since early attention can prevent bigger problems.
Planning your appointment
To find out whether implants could steady your denture, call our Port Dover office at 519-583-2929. Mention any current denture problems and whether you have had implant or bone assessments before.
Bring your current denture and a full medication list, and ask about the expected number of visits so trips from Renton can be planned.

It depends on the design and which jaw is involved. A removable lower denture may use two or more implants, while a fixed full-arch design usually needs more. The dentist will recommend a number based on your bone, bite and goals.
Sometimes an existing denture can be modified to attach to implants, if it fits well and is in good condition. In other cases a new denture is recommended. The dentist will assess your current denture and explain the options.
It requires a consistent routine, but most people manage well with the right tools. Removable designs are cleaned out of the mouth, while fixed designs need special brushes or flossers. The hygienist will show you techniques and recommend products.
Many people find implant dentures much more stable than conventional ones, especially for chewing. They still feel different from natural teeth, and there is an adjustment period. Fixed options tend to feel closer to natural teeth than removable ones.
Bone grafting may be possible to build up the area before implants are placed, or shorter or angled implants may be considered. Some people are better served by a conventional denture. The dentist will discuss what your imaging shows.
