Every dental service for Jarvis patientsOne tooth, fully replaced
An implant-supported crown is a custom tooth attached to a dental implant that has fused with the jawbone. It replaces a single missing tooth without involving the neighbouring teeth. When well planned, the crown can blend with your smile and restore normal chewing, though it requires its own kind of daily care.
For a Jarvis patient with a healed implant or one being planned, our Port Dover office can design and fit the crown. You will have input on shade and shape before it is finalized.

Before the crown
The implant needs time to integrate with the bone before it can support chewing forces. The dentist checks stability and may take X-rays. If a healing cap or temporary tooth is in place, it will be removed. Timing varies between patients, so ask how healing is assessed in your case.
Shade, size and shape are chosen so the crown matches neighbouring teeth and suits your smile. If you plan to whiten your natural teeth, do so before the shade is selected, since crowns do not whiten. Bring photos if you want the new tooth to resemble the one that was lost.
Crown options
A screw-retained crown is fixed to the implant with a small screw accessed through a channel that is sealed with tooth-coloured material. It can be removed by the dentist if adjustments or repairs are needed, which can simplify future maintenance in some situations.
A cemented crown is bonded to an abutment attached to the implant, similar to a crown on a natural tooth. It may offer certain aesthetic advantages depending on the implant position. The dentist will recommend the attachment type that suits the location, angle and your bite.
Fitting
Impressions or a digital scan capture the implant position and surrounding teeth. An abutment, the connector between implant and crown, is selected or custom-made. The lab uses these records to create the crown. You may wear a temporary in visible areas while the final crown is made.
At the fitting visit, the crown is tried in and checked for fit, colour, contact with neighbouring teeth and bite. Adjustments are made so it feels natural when you chew. Once you and the dentist are satisfied, the crown is secured. You will receive care instructions before leaving.
Ongoing care
Brush the crown as you would a natural tooth and clean around the gumline carefully. Floss, interdental brushes or a water flosser may be recommended. Implants do not decay, but the gum and bone can become inflamed. The hygienist can show you tools and techniques suited to implant care.
Regular checkups allow the dentist to check the crown, screw or cement, the gums and bone levels. Call the office if the crown feels loose, the gum bleeds or swells, or you notice discomfort. A night guard may be recommended if you grind your teeth.
Planning your appointment

Once the implant has integrated with the bone, which typically takes a few months. The dentist will confirm stability before proceeding with the final crown.
The crown is shaded and shaped to match. The final appearance also depends on gum and bone levels. The dentist will discuss what to expect for your case.
No, but the gums and bone around the implant can become inflamed or infected. Good hygiene and regular checkups help prevent this.
Contact the office. A screw may need tightening or the crown may need recementing. Prompt attention prevents damage to the components.
Often, yes, as long as the implant system can be identified. Bring records from the provider who placed the implant so the correct parts can be used.
Implants replace missing teeth with a post anchored in the jaw. Jarvis patients can learn how candidacy, healing time and long-term care are assessed before deciding.
