Seeing Jarvis patients at our Port Dover office
Every dental service for Jarvis patientsReplacing missing teeth
Losing teeth affects how you eat, speak and feel about your smile. Dentures are removable replacements that can restore much of that function, whether for a full arch or a few missing teeth. Modern dentures can look natural, but they take getting used to, and they need ongoing care to stay comfortable.
Dentures for Jarvis patients are planned and fitted at our Port Dover office. We will talk about your expectations, take careful measurements and stay in touch through the adjustment period that follows.

First conversation
Think about the foods you most want to enjoy, any trouble with speech and how you would like your smile to look. If you already wear dentures, describe what has worked and what has not. Practical goals help the dentist recommend the type of denture and design most likely to meet your needs.
The dentist will examine your gums, remaining teeth and jawbone and may take X-rays. Gum disease, infection or teeth that need removal are usually addressed first. Your general health and medications are also reviewed because they can affect healing and comfort with a denture.
Types available
Complete dentures replace all teeth in an arch and rest on the gums. Partial dentures fill gaps and attach to remaining natural teeth with clasps. Partials help keep remaining teeth from shifting. The dentist will explain which type suits your situation and what each requires to maintain.
Immediate dentures are placed on the same day teeth are removed, so you are not without teeth during healing, though they typically need adjustments or relines later. Implant-supported dentures attach to implants for more stability. The dentist can discuss whether these are realistic for you.
Adapting
New dentures may feel bulky, and you may produce more saliva at first. Start with soft foods cut into small pieces, chewing on both sides together. Speaking slowly and reading aloud helps your mouth adapt. Many people find things improve over the first few weeks, but the pace differs for everyone.
Sore spots often appear as the denture settles. Contact the office for an adjustment rather than putting up with discomfort or altering the denture yourself. Several follow-up visits are usually part of the process. Keep a note of where you feel pressure so the dentist can locate the problem easily.
Daily care
Rinse dentures after eating and brush them daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner. Regular toothpaste can scratch the surface. Soak them overnight as directed. Brush your gums, tongue and any natural teeth too. Hold dentures over a towel or water when cleaning to avoid breakage.
Even without natural teeth, regular dental visits matter. The dentist checks the fit of your denture, examines your gums and screens for oral cancer and other changes. Over time, relines or replacement may be needed as your mouth naturally changes shape.
Planning your appointment
Call our Port Dover office to book a denture consultation. Let us know if you currently wear dentures, which teeth are missing and what concerns you most.

Before you book
Have a question about your situation? Our team can help you plan a visit.
There may be a short adjustment period where certain sounds feel different. Practice speaking and reading aloud. Most people adapt, but persistent difficulties should be discussed with the dentist.
Many foods are manageable once you adapt, but very hard, sticky or tough foods can be challenging. Cutting food into smaller pieces and chewing on both sides can help.
Dentures often last several years, but the fit changes as your gums and bone change. Relines can extend their life. Eventually replacement is needed due to wear or fit.
In most cases, removing dentures overnight is recommended to let your gums rest. Follow the specific advice the dentist gives you.
Sore spots are common early on and can be relieved with adjustments. Contact the office rather than waiting. Persistent pain should always be assessed.
Missing several or all teeth? Jarvis patients can compare complete and partial dentures at our Port Dover office, from fit and comfort to cleaning and follow-up.
A cracked denture or one that has grown loose can make eating hard. Jarvis denture wearers can have repairs and relines assessed at our Port Dover office.
