Every dental service for Silver HillRestore fit and function
Even well-made dentures need attention over the years. Acrylic can crack if a denture is dropped, a tooth can pop out, clasps can bend, and the gums and bone underneath gradually change shape. A denture that once fit snugly may begin to rock, rub or trap food. Repairs fix damage, while relines reshape the fitting surface to match your gums again.
Silver Hill patients with a broken or loose denture can contact our Port Dover office to arrange an assessment. The dentist will look at the denture and your mouth, explain whether a repair, reline or replacement makes the most sense, and give an idea of how long you may be without it.

Spotting problems
A denture that slips when you speak or chew, sore spots that keep returning, food getting trapped underneath, or the need for more adhesive than before can all suggest the fit has changed. Changes in facial appearance or bite may also be clues. Over time, a poor fit can irritate gums and contribute to bone loss.
Cracks in the base, chipped or missing teeth, broken clasps on a partial and sharp edges all need professional repair. Continuing to wear a damaged denture can lead to further breakage or injure the gums and tongue. Keep any broken pieces and bring them with the denture to your appointment.
Avoid home fixes
Household glues can contain chemicals that are not safe for the mouth, and they rarely line up broken pieces accurately. Over-the-counter reline kits may change the bite or create pressure points. These attempts can damage the denture beyond repair and leave you needing a replacement rather than a simple fix.
If your denture breaks, stop wearing it if it is sharp or unstable and store the pieces in a safe container. If a partial denture clasp is bent, avoid trying to bend it back. Call the office to describe the problem so the team can suggest a sensible next step and timing.
Repair or reline
Many cracks, fractures and missing teeth can be repaired, often by sending the denture to a laboratory. Adding a tooth to a partial denture after another natural tooth is lost is sometimes possible. The dentist will check whether the denture is otherwise in good condition and whether repair is worthwhile.
A reline reshapes the inner surface of the denture to fit your gums better. A hard reline uses durable acrylic, while a soft reline uses a cushioning material for tender gums. Some relines are done in the office, others in a lab. If the denture is very old or worn, replacement may be suggested instead.
After the fix
After a reline, the denture may feel tighter and slightly different. Small sore spots can appear; contact the office for adjustments rather than trying to file the denture yourself. Soft foods for the first few days can make the transition easier. Your speech may need a short time to readjust.
Clean the denture daily with a soft brush and denture cleaner, store it in water or solution overnight, and handle it over a folded towel or a basin of water to cushion falls. Keep regular checkups so fit and gum health can be reviewed before small problems become big ones.
Planning your appointment
Call our Port Dover office and describe the problem with your denture. Ask how long the repair or reline may take so you can plan around the time you might be without it.
Bring the denture and any broken pieces in a protective container. Mention if you wear an upper and lower so both can be checked.
Before you book
Have a question about your situation? Our team can help you plan a visit.
There is no fixed schedule for everyone. Gums and bone change gradually, so many dentures need a reline after some years of wear. Regular checkups help the dentist recommend a reline at the right time.
It is best not to. Household glue may be harmful and can misalign the pieces, making professional repair more difficult or impossible. Bring the denture to the office for proper repair.
Some repairs and relines can be completed fairly quickly, while others require laboratory work. Ask the team when booking how long it is likely to take so you can plan.
It depends on the denture’s age, condition and how well it fits. A denture with worn teeth or repeated breaks may be better replaced. The dentist will explain the advantages of each option.
Sore spots often mean the denture is pressing on certain areas because the fit has changed or the denture has been damaged. An adjustment or reline can usually help. Persistent sores should always be checked.
