Caring for Port Ryerse patients at our Port Dover office
Every dental service for Port RyerseA new surface for your smile
Veneers are thin shells, usually porcelain or composite resin, bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. They can mask deep stains, close gaps, lengthen worn teeth and even out shape. Because some enamel is often removed to make room for porcelain veneers, the decision is generally irreversible and worth careful thought.
If you live in Port Ryerse and are curious about veneers, a consultation at our Port Dover office is the place to start. The dentist will look at tooth health, gum condition and bite, then discuss whether veneers are suitable or whether a more conservative approach could meet your goals.

What veneers do
Veneers are often chosen for teeth that are discoloured despite whitening, chipped or worn, slightly misaligned or unevenly sized. They can create a more uniform appearance across several front teeth. Results can look very natural when planned carefully around your face, lips and gum line.
Teeth with active decay, gum disease, large fillings or very heavy grinding may not be good candidates. Significant crowding is often better addressed with orthodontics first. If only one tooth is involved, bonding or a crown may be simpler. The dentist will explain the most suitable route.
Porcelain or composite
Porcelain veneers are made in a dental lab. They resist staining well, reflect light much like natural enamel and tend to last a long time. They usually require some enamel removal and two or more visits. Repairing chipped porcelain can be difficult, so replacement may be needed if damage occurs.
Composite veneers are sculpted directly on the tooth, often in one visit, and usually involve less enamel removal. They are easier to repair but more prone to staining and chipping over time. Composite can be a good option for some people, or a stepping stone before porcelain.
The process
Planning may include photos, scans, models and sometimes a mock-up that lets you preview length and shape. Discuss colour, how natural or bright you want the result and any concerns about your smile line. Whitening other teeth first may be suggested so veneers match the final shade.
For porcelain, teeth are numbed and a thin layer of enamel is removed. Impressions or scans are sent to a lab, and temporary veneers may be placed. At the fitting, the dentist checks fit and colour before bonding each veneer. Bite and gum health are checked at follow-up visits.
Living with veneers
Brush and clean between teeth as usual, paying attention to the gum line where veneers meet natural tooth. Non-abrasive toothpaste is often recommended. Regular hygiene visits help keep gums healthy, which supports the appearance of veneers. Report any sensitivity, rough edges or chips.
Avoid biting hard objects, chewing ice and using teeth as tools. If you grind or clench, a night guard is often advised to protect veneers. Veneers may eventually need replacement after many years. Regular checkups allow the dentist to monitor the edges and bonding.
Planning your appointment
Call our Port Dover office to book a cosmetic consultation and describe what you want to change. Mention any important dates so planning can allow enough time for lab work.
Photos of smiles you like, along with your own old photos, can help explain the result you are hoping for.
Before you book

Porcelain veneers usually involve removing some enamel, so the tooth will always need a covering afterward. Veneers themselves can last many years but may eventually need replacing. Composite options may be less invasive.
Well-planned veneers can look very natural. Shade, translucency, shape and gum line all affect the result. Discuss your preferences thoroughly and review any mock-ups before final placement.
Veneers can disguise mild irregularities but do not move teeth. Significant misalignment may require orthodontics first. The dentist will explain whether veneers alone can achieve the look you want.
Porcelain resists staining well. Composite can discolour over time. Natural teeth around veneers can still stain, so whitening may be considered before veneers are made to set the right shade.
It depends on your goals and smile width. Some people need one or two, others more. The dentist will plan based on how many teeth show when you smile and what changes are needed.
Bonding uses tooth-coloured resin to fix chips, close small gaps or reshape edges. Port Ryerse patients can see if it suits them at our Port Dover dental office.
Small refinements to uneven edges or points can soften a smile. Port Ryerse patients can find out whether tooth reshaping suits them at our Port Dover office.
