Every dental service for Jarvis patientsReplacing teeth with removable options
A complete denture replaces all the teeth in an upper or lower arch, while a partial denture fills gaps and clips onto remaining natural teeth. Both can restore chewing and appearance, though each involves an adjustment period. The right choice depends on the health of your remaining teeth, your gums and bone, and your own priorities.
People in Jarvis considering dentures can be assessed at our Port Dover office. The dentist will explain the options, the steps involved in making them and what life with a removable appliance realistically looks like.

Understand options
If several healthy teeth remain, a partial denture can replace the missing ones while preserving your natural teeth. It usually attaches with clasps or precision attachments. The supporting teeth need to be strong and the gums healthy, so the dentist may recommend treating decay or gum disease before the partial is made.
When all teeth in an arch are missing or the remaining ones cannot reasonably be saved, a complete denture may be recommended. If extractions are needed, the dentist will explain timing options, including whether an immediate denture could be placed at the same visit. Implant-supported options may also be discussed.
Making the denture
The process typically begins with impressions of your mouth and records of how your jaws relate to each other. You can discuss tooth shade, shape and size so the result looks natural for your face. Bring photos of your earlier smile if you would like the new teeth to resemble your own.
A trial version may be fitted so you and the dentist can check appearance, bite and speech before the final denture is made. At the delivery appointment, the fit is checked and adjusted. You will receive instructions on wearing, removing and caring for it, along with what to expect in the first weeks.
Adjusting to it
Start with soft foods cut into small pieces and chew on both sides at once to keep the denture stable. Speaking may feel awkward at first; reading aloud can help your tongue and lips adjust. Most people gradually find eating and talking more natural, though the time it takes varies from person to person.
Sore spots are common in the early weeks as the denture settles. Do not try to adjust it yourself. Call the office so the dentist can make careful adjustments. Several follow-up visits are often part of the process, and they help the denture become comfortable for daily wear.
Long-term care
Remove and rinse dentures after eating, brush them daily with a soft brush and a cleaner designed for dentures, and store them in water or solution overnight unless told otherwise. Clean your gums, tongue and any remaining teeth as well. Handle dentures over a folded towel or sink of water to prevent breakage.
The shape of your gums and bone changes over time, which can make dentures loosen. Regular checkups allow the fit, the tissues and any natural teeth to be examined. A reline or adjustment may be recommended when the fit changes, and eventually a replacement may be needed.
Planning your appointment
Call our Port Dover office to arrange a consultation about complete or partial dentures. Mention which teeth are missing, any current denture and what you find most difficult.
Bring an existing denture, a medication list and older photos showing your smile if appearance matters to you.
Before you book
Have a question about your situation? Our team can help you plan a visit.
It usually involves several appointments over a number of weeks, including impressions, records and a try-in. If extractions or other treatment are needed first, the timeline may be longer. The dentist will outline the steps for your case.
Tooth shade, shape and arrangement can be selected to suit your face. A try-in stage lets you review the appearance before the final denture is made, so you can share feedback.
Many dentists recommend removing them overnight to let the gums rest. Follow the specific instructions you are given, especially in the first days after receiving a new denture or after extractions.
Changes in the gums and bone can affect fit. Contact the office so the dentist can check whether an adjustment or reline would help. Avoid relying on large amounts of adhesive to compensate for a poor fit.
They may be for some patients, depending on bone, health and preferences. They can improve stability. The dentist can explain whether you are a candidate and how the process differs from conventional dentures.
Tired of a denture that slips? Implant-supported dentures anchor to posts in the jaw. Jarvis patients can review candidacy, options and upkeep at our Port Dover office.
A cracked denture or one that has grown loose can make eating hard. Jarvis denture wearers can have repairs and relines assessed at our Port Dover office.
