Every dental service for Silver HillStraighter teeth, step by step
Clear aligners are a series of thin, removable plastic trays that move teeth in small increments. They can help with some crowding, spacing and bite concerns, and many people appreciate that they are less noticeable than traditional braces. They do, however, rely on being worn for most of the day, every day, for the plan to work.
If you are in Silver Hill and curious about straightening your teeth, a consultation at our Port Dover office can show whether aligners are a reasonable option for you. The dentist will examine your teeth and gums, discuss your goals and be candid if another approach would suit your situation better.

Is it a good fit
Mild to moderate crowding, gaps between teeth and some bite irregularities are often treatable with aligners. Teeth that have shifted after earlier orthodontic treatment can sometimes be corrected too. What matters is how much movement is needed, which teeth are involved and whether your gums and supporting bone are healthy enough to support the change.
Complex bite problems, significant jaw discrepancies or certain types of tooth rotation may respond better to braces or specialist orthodontic care. Active gum disease or untreated cavities need attention before tooth movement begins. The dentist will explain if a referral to an orthodontist would give you a more predictable result.
Planning treatment
Planning usually involves photographs, X-rays and impressions or a digital scan. From these, a treatment sequence is designed and you may be shown a projected outcome. Small tooth-coloured attachments are sometimes bonded to teeth to help the trays grip, and slight reshaping between teeth may be planned where space is needed.
Ask how long treatment is expected to take, how often you will need check-in visits, what happens if a tray is lost and what retention will be required afterward. Understanding the full commitment, including the years of retainer wear that follow, helps you decide whether aligners fit your routine and goals.
Wearing aligners
Aligners generally need to be worn for most of the day and night, coming out only to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth. Each tray is worn for a set period before moving to the next. New trays may feel snug or cause mild pressure for a day or two, which usually settles.
Brush and clean between your teeth before putting aligners back in, so food is not trapped against the enamel. Rinse and gently clean the trays as instructed, and avoid hot water that can warp them. Keep them in their case when out of your mouth to avoid loss or damage.
Keeping the result
Once the active phase ends, a retainer is needed to hold teeth in their new positions while the surrounding tissues settle. You may be asked to wear it full time at first and then at night. Following those instructions is what protects the time and effort you put into treatment.
Continue regular checkups and cleanings during and after aligner treatment. Bring your trays or retainer to appointments so fit can be checked. If a retainer cracks, feels loose or no longer fits, contact the office before your teeth have a chance to shift noticeably. A replacement can usually be made from updated records.
Planning your appointment
Arrange a consultation at our Port Dover office and mention that you are interested in clear aligners. Let us know what you would like to change about your smile and any past orthodontic treatment.
Bring any old retainers or records from previous braces. Recent dental X-rays from another office can also be useful to share.
Before you book
Have a question about your situation? Our team can help you plan a visit.
It varies with the amount of movement needed and how consistently the trays are worn. Some cases are relatively short, while others take longer. The dentist will give you an estimate after reviewing your records and treatment plan.
Most people feel pressure or mild tenderness when switching to a new tray, which usually eases within a few days. Sharp edges can sometimes irritate the cheek or tongue; let the office know so they can be smoothed.
You can remove them briefly, but the time out of your mouth reduces their effect. Frequent or long breaks can slow progress or cause trays to stop fitting. Ask the dentist about any special circumstances in advance.
Yes. Teeth naturally tend to move after treatment, so a retainer is needed to keep the result. The dentist will explain the recommended retainer type and how long it should be worn each day or night.
They can be for some teens, depending on their teeth, development and ability to wear the trays consistently. The dentist can assess suitability and discuss whether braces or an orthodontic referral may be a better choice.
